General Evacuation Guidelines
If there is an evacuation due to a fire or if a full evacuation is necessary, tenants should follow these simple evacuation tips:
- Know the name of the Floor Warden and Deputy Floor Wardens assigned to your floor.
- Be familiar with the type of the floor signal used to indicate a floor evacuation or fire drill.
- Do not evacuate the floor unless you hear the evacuation signal or are directed to do so by the Floor Warden or a Deputy Floor warden for your area.
- Become acquainted with all Fire Stairways located on your floor and the location of the nearest Fire Alarm.
- When evacuating your area, walk quickly, but do not run; do so in silence.
- DO NOT SMOKE, or carry with you coffee, soda, etc. Follow the directions of your Deputy Floor Warden.
- DO NOT USE ELEVATORS for emergency evacuations. Use only the Fire Stairways unless otherwise directed by your Deputy Warden to do so.
- If working in another area when evacuation signal is sounded, DO NOT go back to your area for personal effects. Follow the direction of the Deputy Fire Warden in that area and evacuate via their assigned Fire Stairway.
- If exposed to heat or smoke, follow the direction of your Deputy Floor Warden. Stay low near the floor.
- Do not panic. Remain calm. Your outbursts could cause danger to your fellow employees.
- When participating in a scheduled floor fire drill, conduct yourself in an adult manner.
- The responsibility for your safety lies with the Floor Warden and the Deputy Floor Wardens. You as individuals are also responsible for your fellow employees during an emergency condition. Act accordingly and follow directions.
- Do not return to your floor until advised to do so by members of the Fire Department or your Floor Warden.
